The origins of Boy Howdy! are steeped in myth and legend. Some say he went to the crossroads (of Detroit's Cass Ave. and Parsons St.) and sold his soul to the devil. Others say the White Panthers, who were going to chuck him at "the Pigs," filled him with piss & vinegar. But whatever his genesis, his influence on popular culture cannot be underrated. Whether he was being thrown at the Stooges, discovering Kiss, getting 'faced with the Replacements, or making a cameo in Almost Famoushis ubiquitous smiling face is like the USDA label of hip-ness. No non-dairy substitutes here, only 100% CREEM.
Check out the history of CREEM, dig deep and you'll find the buried nuggets of those legends Boy Howdy! helped createyou'll not be disappointed. No matter if you were there or going for the first time, it's very refreshing with no bitter aftertaste. |
